Jill Diane Filion

Jill was born . . . . . . and soon after, discovered performing! She started both dance and piano studies at an early age and held out till age 12 to begin singing lessons. She appeared in her first musical theatre production, Oklahoma, at age 13, in a small feature dance role "Pigtails". Since then Jill has done everything from chorus dancer to leading lady to musical director to producer. While living in Vancouver Hill appeared in many productions, favourite experiences include: "Eliza" in My Fair Lady; "Marion" in The Music Man; "Hodel" in Fiddler on the Roof; "Valencienne" in The Merry Widow; "Princess" in The Student Prince; "Graziella" in West Side Story and "Mao Jones" in Street Scene. For the Vancouver Opera Touring Ensemble Hill was cast as "Musetta" in La Boheme, "Gretel" in Hansel and Gretel and "Josephine" in HMS Pinafore. On the main stage she played her one and only "pants" role to date, "Jano" in Jenufa under the direction of Lotfi Mansouri. Jill was co-founder and artistic director of West Coast Concert Opera., which had the distinction of hosting the first ever "Opera Quiz" broadcast from somewhere other than The Met! She also sang the roles of "Adina" in the Barroom Floor. Hill was asked to join the Touring Company of The Phantom of the Opera in 1993 and subsequently invited to join the Toronto company in 1994. During her "Phantom years" she performed all 6 of the female ensemble roles as well as the deliciously-decadent "Carlotta". She was asked to sing on the recording of songs from Ragtime and then to be in the original cast. In the 2000-2001 season Jill appeared as "Nimue" in Camelot co-produced by the Citadel Theatre, Manitoba Theatre Centre and Theatre Calgary. Most recently she was seen as the saucy Kit-Kat girl "Frenchie" in the Citadel’s highly acclaimed production of Cabaret as well as playing second keyboard and castanets in the band! This summer Jill will be performing in The Man of La Mancha at the Drayton Theatre. Jill currently teaches singing in her own studio as well for The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. She is the soprano half of the vocal duo Wine, Women and Song and still studies dance, in the form of flamenco and classical Spanish. Ole!
